About Us

The history of Virginia Trailways Federal Credit Union has had a large impact on our vision for the future. The Jessup family of Charlottesville began this credit union to provide a source of funds for their employees during times of financial crisis. This credit union was formed by a group of people sharing a common bond-people helping people.

In July 1949, we were organized as a Federal Credit Union and granted non-profit corporation status. Our stated mission then, as it is now, is to serve the needs of our members in an efficient and practical manner. Through the years, we have been committed to enhancing the financial welfare of each of our members and to serve them on an individual basis. Unlike many financial institutions today, we treat you like a member-not a number.

Our operations are simple. All money generated for loans for our members comes from fellow-members’ savings accounts. Similarly, interest or dividends paid to our members on their savings accounts are made possible by the faithful and prompt repayment of fellow-members loans.

Your savings are insured up to $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration. Virginia Trailways Federal Credit Union has a security bond coverage which protects our members from any losses due to dishonesty, robbery, and other designated hazards. Being a federally chartered credit union, any losses by way of theft, forgery, or robbery are handled by the FBI.

We’re glad you have joined us at Virginia Trailways Federal Credit Union and hope you will take advantage of our financial services and participate in planning the growth of our Credit Union.
